PostSubject: Carrie Butler Fishburn is discovered.   Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:20 pm

Florence Kay Butler Hendricks had a daughter that our family did not know about until after both Grand and Florence were dead.

The Hendricks family did not know that Carrie existed until after both Grant and Florence had died. Several of Grant's sons went back to Indiana to attend to some gravestone issues and discovered this history. They were devastated to find they had a half sister they did not know about, and she was now dead. This is the history we have manage to uncover about the lost member of our clan.

PostSubject: Carrie marries.   Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:22 pm

The last we could find in Census about Carrie is that her Mother and her lived with Lawson and Samantha Allan.
Lawson D Allen was a prominant farmer and stockholder in the area (240 acres). His wife Samantha died in 1883 and he remarried to Margaret Stephens in 1886. Lawson & Samantha had 5 children (Loton H, Estella, William P, Adam, and Roy Forest) all died before his biography was published in 1894 except Loton H. There is no mention of Carrie L so we can assume she was not officially adopted by the family.

Then, both disappear.

We discovered after much research, her history.

The marriage of Samuel Fishburn to Miss Carrie Butler occurred at the home of John Daufel at noon Wednesday, 6/28/1899, Rev. Myers officiating. Both the bride and groom are well and favorably know here, and we join their many friends in extending congratulations.

PostSubject: Carrie's obit   Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:24 pm

The daughter born July 24, 1879 in Poplar Grove , IN to Florence Kay & Benjamin B. Butler was named Carrie Lee Butler. Carrie married Samuel O. Fishburn who was born 1871 and died April 18, 1960. Samuel's father was Samuel Fishburn who died July 8, 1903. Carrie & Samuel had three children: 2 daughters & 1 son. Carrie died Feb. 19, 1914 of septicemia in Green Twp., Marshall Co., IN. Carrie's obituary from the Argos, IN paper, 2/1914. Carrie Butler Fishburn was born July 24, 1879 in the vicinity of Poplar Grove church and grew to womanhood near Jordan church in the home of Mr. John Daufel. She passed from this life Feb. 19, 1914, aged 34 years, 6 months and 25 days. She was united in marriage with Samuel Fishburn, June 28, 1899. To this union were born two daughters and a son who with their father remain to feel a loss so deep, that nothing can repay except a better world than this, beyond the borders of time. Mrs. Fishburn gave her heart to God when she was 15 years old and united with the Jordan Baptist church April 26, 1895, of which she remained a member until her Savior called her to the church triumphant. Her life though short was full of good always having a pleasant and hopeful disposition. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and in her death we all feel a deep sense of loss. She will be most missed in the home where she was a kind considerate mother, a true wife and to all else a true friend. We feel that our loss is Heaven's gain. A loved one, from us, has gone away, Removed from mortal eye; yet not extinct, she holds her away, In glory in the sky. Funeral services were held at Poplar Grove Sunday at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Albert L. Vermillion, with interment in adjacent cemetery.
